Now I’ve had an iPhone for over a year now and it’s a truly great phone. It’s still lacking some killer features out of the box MMS, Voice Recorder, forward SMS. More importantly I’ve recently been playing playing with the iPhone SDK and I’ve found it pretty unintuitive, it also doesn’t help that I’m not enjoying using Objective-C as a language. urgh.
At the same time I’ve also been playing with the Android SDK in eclipse and ever since I first used the emulator to play with the actual Android Operating System, I’ve been in love with it. Especially since I’ve found the Android SDK extremely easy to pick up and learn, even with no prior knowledge of Java, it’s extremely well documented. After about three days of “should I’ and “shouldn’t I” running through my head, I went out and bought the T-Mobile G1. All I can say is wow! I was originally skeptical about the phones design and the slide out screen to reveal the keyboard, I take it all back, this phone is a dream to use. I’m really looking forward to developing some new applications and hopefully some games for it!
Here’s some shots, apologies about the terrible lighting.

For the last year I’ve had my macbookpro solely running Windows (first XP then Vista) because the agency where I work are a Microsoft house and I find I have to use a lot of Microsoft tools. A year is all I can give Windows. I really needed to go back to OSX, but I’m at the dilemma now of what development environment to use?
I’m missing FlashDevelop for Windows, it’s a fantastic editor. My choices on OSX seem to be:
- FlexBuilder 3. I’ve always found this editor slow and quite memory intensive. Intellisense isn’t great and can’t find a way to use snippets or project templates. A real step backwords.
- TextMate. I’m still looking in to this editor, it has probably the best snippet support I’ve seen in an editor. It’s very light on resources and doesn’t seem bloated like Flex Builder. It has an AS3 bundle which I’ve installed but the intellisense seems relatively poor.
So far I’m not really convinced either editor has anything over the other one. I guess I just have to try each one for a month or two and see how it goes.

Well blog has been moved over to WordPress, styled with a nice dark theme called Hemmingway that I’ll no doubt hack to pieces eventually. So I’m pretty much ready to start my journey in blogging, i know i know, it’s long overdue. Anything else on the first post agenda? Oh yeah, I suppose you want to know who I am!
